Microbiology
The Microbiology Laboratory is directed by Dr. Gary Hollick, a PhD Microbiologist who is a diplomat of the American Board of Microbiology. Dr. Hollick received his undergraduate education at Pennsylvania State University, obtained his Masters degree at Mayo Graduate School of Medicine and earned his PhD in Medical Mycology at the University of Oklahoma. He did a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Rochester and is certified by the American Board of Medical Microbiology. Dr. Hollick has over 20 years of experience in Medical Microbiology and has authored over 30 journal publications and three book chapters. A standardized approach to electronic reporting of results has been developed for microbiology to streamline the data management component and expedite output of results.

Testing for Clinical trials have been performed or are ongoing in the following areas:

  • Bacteriology - routine cultures, traditional antibiotic sensitivity tests, customized antibiotic panels, MIC testing
  • Mycology - antifungal susceptibility testing, general fungal cultures, dermatophyte cultures
  • Mycobacteriology - routine cultures
  • Virology - herpes virus culture and typing, respiratory virus isolation and identification
  • Parasitology - ova and parasite exam, parasite antigen detection, trichomonas culture
  • Molecular Diagnostics - RNA/DNA extractions, viral load assays.
